MYSTERY BREWING in CARRBOROO CITIZEN

Mystery Brewing
It’s an old story that Wall Street still isn’t helping Main Street when it comes to lending to small business. And even though the folks in Washington say they’re working on that, tangible results are still a ways off.
But the current economic climate’s not dampening the spirits of Erik Lars Myers. The Chapel Hill resident plans to secure $40,000 in start-up funding for his craft beer-making business, Mystery Brewing Co. (mysterybrewingco.com), via a campaign on the micro-financing site Kickstarter.com. To date, he’s raised about 20 percent of the total. Myers will only get the funding if he reaches his goal by July 23. (Myers isn’t alone in thinking now’s the time for microbreweries. The mid-south region boasted the largest growth in craft beer sales in 2009 and the state is currently home to more than 40 breweries. Three more are slated to launch this year.)
“My preference is for capital investments and slow growth via cash flow,” Myers explains. “That means that I’m not necessarily starting off with my ideal business – for instance, somebody else will be making my beer for me for a short time – but I think that the lack of crushing debt ultimately gives me a better chance to succeed.”

FULLSTEAM in HERALD SUN
In this Herald Sun article Fullsteam announce their open date and line up of beers!
Fullsteam ahead: The date has been set. Fullsteam Brewery, the new brewery specializing in Southern ingredients, will open Aug. 13 in downtown.
Following nearly a year of build out, the warehouse at 726 Rigsbee Ave. has been transformed into a brewery and tavern space, with red walls, metal and wood artwork, a stage for music acts, a foosball table and a metal ‘F’ door.
The grand opening will coincide with the five-year anniversary of Pop The Cap, an organization spear-headed by Fullsteam founder Sean Wilson.
As for the first batch of beers, Fullsteam will have the “Very First Batch,” a wheat beer brewed with basil from Coon Rock Farm in Orange County.
Other offerings in the works: Carolina Common, Rocket Science IPA, El Toro Cream Ale and 6:14 Mild in the Workers’ Compensation series; and Hogwash, Carver sweet potato ale, and Liborius Gollhardt (sour rhubarb and other seasonal fruits) in the Plow-to-Pint series.
