Denver Post story about New Belgium’s progress in Asheville.
Fort Collins-based New Belgium Brewing Co., the nation’s third largest craft brewer, announced Wednesday it is hitting the pause button for eight months on its $175 million East Coast brewery taking shape in Asheville, N.C.
Under a tentative schedule, construction was to begin before this summer and run into next year, with the first beers available for sale in the first quarter of 2015. Construction will be put on hold until 2014 under the revised plan.
Spokesman Bryan Simpson said the delay is the result of 70,000 barrels of capacity added in Fort Collins this year, bringing the brewery’s total capacity to 920,000 barrels and allowing New Belgium to satisfy its 2015 sales projections. There are no roadblocks in North Carolina, he said.
