August Beer Festivals

Wow, there are a lot of festivals in this state. Here are 4 for August:

Beer & Bourbon Fest, August 6 &7 in Cary
Three sessions to reduce crowds with ticket prices ranging from $35 – $55 featuring a pig picken’, homebrew contests, pig racing and BBQ contests.

Last year’s show was a SELL-OUT and this year is sure to repeat. Enjoy a great day of beer sippin’, bourbon tastin’, music listenin’, cigar smokin’, and barbeque eatin’. Summer Time Brews Fest August 14th Greensboro
Long running fest in the Triad will take place at Greensboro Coliseum Special Event Center with a special Brewer’s Tasting from 2:30PM to 4:00PM and after that it’s general admission until 8PM. Tickets are onsale in advance for $30. Summertime Brews Fest

Festival of Beers in Moore County August 21st Southern Pines
Richmond County Journal had this post regarding this first time fest:

This event will be held at the beautiful Weymouth Center in Southern Pines, North Carolina on Saturday, August 21, 2010. Brew Thru delivery service

Wilmington Star News reports Brew Thru delivery service is a hit with Freeman Park crowd:

Beer deliveries to Freeman Park a boost for Brew Thru’s business

Owner John Childers said about 200 delivery orders have gone to the popular four-wheel-drive beach on the north end of Pleasure Island since delivery began on June 25. Fourth of July weekend alone accounted for about 75 of them, he said.

“We thought we were going to have to bring someone in just to answer the phones,” Childers said. “People are excited. They don’t have to drive. They can drink their beer, spend the night and not have any problems.”

Brew Thru’s original plan was to deliver only cases of beer, which contain 24 cans. But due to demand, 12-packs are now on the menu and have become a popular option.

“That’s good,” Childers said. “That means they’re not overdoing it.”

Scheduled delivery times also have fallen by the wayside, with Brew Thru delivering as people order. The shop offers the service from noon to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday and will continue until at least Labor Day.

“We do get some calls on weekdays,” Childers said. “I just don’t have the manpower to do it during the week.”

Customers must call in their order to 458-2739 and pay over the phone with a credit card. The delivery driver requires customers to show a driver’s license to check age and identity based on the credit card name.

The Kirby Derby is a race around Kirby bend in Raleigh NC… local creative types are welcome to enter a vehicle for the race or another entry into the Robot themed parade. One of the most popular parade features was BEER2-D2, the beer dispensing astromech resembling R2-D2 of Star Wars fame. This BEER2-D2 completed it’s mission by dispensing Summer Wheat from Carolina brewing.

Roth brings Nanobrewing to Raleigh
Thomas from Geistbear brewing blog went out to Raleigh’s newest brewery, Roth Brewing:

“One of the big trends in the brewing industry currently is small. Nanobreweries are loosely defined as any commercial system larger than a homebrew system, but not as big as a 7 barrel system often favored by brewpubs and small craft breweries. The Brewing Network recently had a show on them, it was discussed at the last Craft Brewers Conference, and Topfermented took a good look at the idea not long ago.

Raleigh is now host to it’s first such nanobrewery in Roth Brewing Company. The brewery is small, the footprint of the system could probably fit in my patio. It is 2 barrel system with 4 4 barrel fermenters. There is plenty of floor space for expansion, though fitting anything more than a 7 barrel fermenter would be a tight fit height-wise. If the system is upgraded in the future I wonder if the floor drain system would be adequate, but perhaps I have visited too many breweries.”

Bluez N Brewz Beer Fest #OBX

I meant to post this a while ago … I’m slippin’… The Bluez N Brewz Beer Fest is set for Saturday August 22nd in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Sponsored by everyone’s favorite drive-through beer shop Brew Thru, tickets are now on-sale and they’ve posted a list of participating breweries on their website. Tickets are $35.00.
